WELCOME TO CUSTER

Custer is considered to be the oldest town in the Black Hills! It’s rich in history as gold was found here during the 1874 Black Hills Expedition and launched the Black Hills Gold Rush.

Custer is the County Seat and sits at an elevation of 5,480 ft above sea level which means mild summers and cooler evenings. Snow has a tendency to melt as quickly as it comes in the Southern Hills during the winter months.

Custer is truly known as the Outdoor Playground in the Black Hills. You are minutes from the iconic Black Hills attractions—Crazy Horse, Mount Rushmore and Custer State Park. Custer is also making a name for itself as a Foodie town! You’ll never tire of the beauty of Custer and its friendly residents. Custer is truly a nice place to call home!

In 2020, Custer unveiled a new hospital, Monument Health. It is now part of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, it offers 24-hour emergency service, inpatient and outpatient care and hospice.
